Dr. Nirala Jacobi, ND graduated from Bastyr University in 1998 with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine. She practiced as a primary care physician in Montana for 7 years before migrating to Australia. Dr. Jacobi is considered one of Australia’s leading experts in the natural treatment of small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), a common cause of IBS.

She is a national and international speaker on this topic and her annual SIBO update webinar as well as SIBO MasterClasses are popular and well attended. Dr Jacobi is the medical director of SIBOtest, an online testing service, and also has a busy practice in northern New South Wales.

SIBO is actually not a diagnosis. It is a result of underlying factors bringing about an environment that favors SIBO development. Though the majority of SIBO develops due to motility dysfunction in the small intestine, other factors such as digestive deficits, obstruction, adhesions, etc are also not uncommon. Many SIBO patients can stump practitioners by not being a “text book SIBO case” and can often present as treatment resistant or as chronic relapsers. In this presentation, Dr Jacobi will highlight the diversity of underlying factors through a variety of cases and how to manage them.
